GENESIS CITY PURPOSE:
The mission of Genesis City is to reclaim the promise of Arizona’s disenfranchised youth through providing them with the tools they need to become active contributors to the economic and social welfare of their communities.
A recent study by Measure of America of the Social Science Research Council revealed that an alarming one in seven American adolescents and young adults ages 16 to 24 is neither working nor in school. They termed these youth “disconnected.” The report stated, “This isolation from society’s anchor structures is costly to individuals, communities, and the country as a whole.” The report also ranked the USA’s twenty-five most populous metropolitan areas in terms of youth disconnection. In Phoenix, the bottom-ranking city, nearly one in five youth are disconnected. According to the City of Phoenix GIS demographic mapping data, the central Phoenix corridor, where Genesis City is based, is a hot bed of adjudicated youth and dropouts. Genesis City is expert in the field of reengaging disenfranchised youth and providing them with the skills they need to tap into their true potential and transform into successful, contributing members of our community.
Genesis City provides comprehensive youth services to extremely high-risk, poverty-level 14-21 year olds. Its services include intensive wrap-around services and specialized educational programs, individualized career counseling, job training, internships, health and social wellness referrals and civic engagement activities. It is comprised of the following Centers:
