Our Genesis Academy Science Team recently won first place at the science fair!
The Genesis Academy Science Team (Keniya Moreno, Damien Payne, Vanessa Rodriguez, and Christopher Monahan) won 1st place in the KIDSS (Kids Innovating Dynamic Sustainable Solutions) Innovation and Science Competition. The team investigated the proficiency of wind turbine blades that generate energy via wind power. Their innovation revealed which type of turbine blades are more efficient to produce more energy.
As a result of their victory, the students won an Internship with Arizona State University. The students will work alongside graduate students and scientists to seek solutions for water reclamation in the Phoenix water system. One of the Genesis Academy team’s ‘scientists’, Vanessa Rodriguez, won a summer camp scholarship from iD TECH CAMPS. Vanessa will learn computer programming, robotics, game programming, and film making. The camp is a week long and will be held on ASU’s campus. The scholarship is valued at $1000.00.
Danny Hobaica, Genesis Academy science teacher, said, “I cannot express how proud I am of these students for their innovation, effort, and hard work. The students’ project showed the science community the quality of students Genesis Academy has to offer. I look forward to next year.”
